  2.    $strftime(<format>)

  4. Technical:
  5.    This function returns the current time with a user-definable format.  It
  6.    calls the library function strftime(), so the exact tokens available
  7.    will vary from system to system, and the output will vary by locale;
  8.    consult your system manual page for strftime(3) for more information.

  10. Practical:
  11.    This function is useful for extracting certain bits on information
  12.    about the current date and time without needing to parse the entire
  13.    string itself in script.

  15. Returns:
  16.    current time, dependent on format specified
  17.  
  18. Examples:
  19.    $strftime(%d %B %Y)          might return "13 December 1996"
  20.    $strftime(%x at %X)          might return "12/13/96 at 16:45:42"
